Adrian’s The Sensational, Inflatable Furry Divines: features three-dimensional quilts made of teddy bear pelts and faux leather. The sculptures are suspended by chains and inflated with fans, allowed to stand and respire in their own right. They are at once playful and sinister, ambiguous toys made of fabrics that evoke both children’s toy rooms and red-light dungeons. Adrian’s sculptures loom quietly, offering their stoic comforts to the gallery they reside in and to its visitors.
Adrian holds a BFA in Fiber and Creative Writing from the Kansas City Art Institute. He was awarded a 2015 Windgate Fellowship from the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design for his proposal of an intensive study of theatre design and puppetry among such places as Chicago, Prague, and India. He has participated in a variety of residencies including the New York Studio Residency Program (Brooklyn, NY), the Charlotte Street Studio Residency (Kansas City, MO), and the Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT). Adrian has resided in Columbus, OH since July 2016 where he is a resident at the Second Sight Project in Franklinton. He is also currently employed by Costume Specialists as a stitcher in the inflatable costume department.
