Christie Blizard: Death Drive

Death Drive will screen documentation of Blizard’s unsolicited performances on the Today Show and Good Morning America. For the last year, Blizard has repeatedly appeared in crowd shots while holding her text-based paintings. Her disruptive and parodic “hijacking” prompts new interpretations of the otherwise generic live broadcasts. Also included in the exhibition are works that transpose her recent performances into new forms, included performance-related objects, give-away works and a live performance during the opening reception.

Blizard works in alternative mediums that merge painting, poetry and performance. She has exhibited widely, including the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio), the School of Visual Arts (New York) and 1708 Gallery (Richmond). Her work has been featured in Art News, Hyperallergic, Blouin ArtInfo and Art in Americam Blizard recieved her MFA in Painting and Drawing at Georgia State University.
