Allison Rose Craver: Material Needs
Material Needs features a collection of ceramic sculptures of household objects. Craver’s sculptures, made with terracotta, porcelain, glaze and plaster, respond to the simultaneous strength and tenderness of the corporeal body. Like flesh, ceramic materials respond directly to gravity and touch. In contrast to the scarring, collapsing and expanding body, Craver’s ceramic objects are static, offering contemplative pause.
Craver grew up in East Aurora, NY, and earned a BFA from Alfred University in 2010. Allison has shown work nationally, inlcuding at Archie Bay Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, MT, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. Allison is currently a 2017 MFA candidate at The Ohio State University.
