PATTERN:

Our 2021 theme is Pattern. A pattern is a regularity in the world in human-made design, or in abstract ideas. As such, the elements of a pattern report in a predictable manner. A geometric pattern is a kind of pattern formed of geometric shapes and typically repeated, like a wallpaper design. Patterns can be physical or behavioral, are organic or contrived. Patterns are created by individuals and collectives and they can be honored or disrupted. Work created for ImageOhio incorporates the theme of pattern somehow.

Photography / New Media Juror Amanda Kline

Amanda Le Kline is a Pennsylvania Dutch girl, hailing from Strausstown, Pennsylvania. Growing up in the mountains, she collected moss, rocks, and other sorts of treasures. In high school she was into punk rock and David Bowie, and soon fell in love with photography. She graduated from Lycoming College in 2008 with her Bachelor of Arts, and from The Ohio State University in 2014 with her Master of Fine Arts. She currently lives in Columbus, Ohio and is an Assistant Professor of Art at Otterbein University. In addition to art and teaching, she enjoys gardening, action movies, and traveling.

Kline brings an interdisciplinary approach to her artistic practice by combining the mediums of photography, video, collage, and installation. Her research interests come from the fields of art history, anthropology, nature studies, and women and gender studies. Her most recent projects dissect her identity, explore family histories, and examine the place and culture of her youth. Photography's ability to combine fantasy and reality drives her art making.

Her work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally. She’s recently had solo exhibitions at the Port Columbus Gateway to the Arts Gallery in Columbus, Ohio and the Beyond Gallery in Bennington, Vermont.

Film / Video Juror Cristyn Steward

Cristyn Steward is the founder and CEO of the Columbus Black International Film Festival  (CBIFF). Her debut film, "Chocolate and Lace,” a short-story-turned-short-film tackling society’s  ideas about love and sex, premiered at the Gateway Film Center in 2010 as a double bill  alongside her second film, “Success It Sucks/Too Much Stress,” an autobiographical  experimental short about life after college. In 2016, “Don’t Cover Your Tracks” was officially  selected to several film festivals around the country.

After returning home, finding success on  the film festival circuit, Cristyn noticed that there was a void and a need for Black film presence  in Columbus and thus created the Columbus Black International Film Festival. For the past four years CBIFF has received 309 film and screenplay submissions, screened 100 films, with global  participation from 15 nations and have connected hundreds of filmmakers around the world.

Cristyn was the recipient of the Spirit of Columbus Award in 2018 and ‘Create Columbus,’  Visionary Award in 2019 and worked as assistant director on web series “We Fight, We Love”  with Artis Creative. For the first time in 2020, Cristyn, exhibited a film instillation at ROY G. BIV  Gallery, titled, When Black Panthers and the Nation Speaks, focusing on the parallels from the  1960’s to the 21st century police brutality. Cristyn is the recipient of Art Unites Cbus Film and Art  grant awarded by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
