My current painting and sculpture emerges from a long time predilection for tedious mark-making and color theory.

Euphoric and sprightly hues are suspended within nearly symmetrically silhouettes.

Exploiting the cordial familiarity of botanical forms, the viewer is seduced into a negotiation between exalting cheerful matter through brooding dexterity.

Artwork is for sale and priced as marked. Artists receive 65% of sales and the 35% ROY retains is invested back into the gallery.

Samantha responds to the questions ROY asks

 1. What is your name and pronouns?

Samantha

She/her

2. How has art (whether it be your own or art in general) changed you?

An Artist is someone who problems solves with materials. I realize we all add to the fabrication of our times, even conceptually. When I saw Kazamir Malevich's "White on White" I heard in my head... I didn't know we were allowed to do that... "That's when art started to change me.

3. How did you start your artistic practice?

An early memory prevails where I assigned personas to all my markers. Anthropomorphizing colors, playing dolls with a box of crayons, creating kin out of the characters... This is the core of my motif. I sourced mediums for my earliest work from the discard pile of my father's woodshop. A generous and articulate master carpenter, this was the first place I learned professional craftsmanship, pragmatics and deft employment of material.I have a strong devotion in my process to diligence, solitude, and repetition. This was gained through my mother's focus on self-governance, instilling a joy for therapeutic tenacity and creating luxury from low brow. Without these people fostering, yet unadulterating, my spirituality and creative trajectory I'd not be able to connect to my aptitudes and sense of design.

4. When a first-time viewer looks at your art, what is the first word that you hope they think when looking at it?

Yikes.
